TradeSim ’Filter’?

   Hi y'all
First post here, and my apologies if it's a lame duck, tho' that's how I'm feeling now.  I'm using Metastock, tho' I'm assuming someone here might be familiar with the product or can point me in the right direction.
I'm attempting to set my entry conditions, basically a 40 day high price breakout.  At this stage I'm a touch confused by the 'filter' function in the 'exploration' when generating a trade log.  Does one need to condense the formula into a single line, that does not use the filter, or are you able to safely use the filter function in the explorations?
