Sideways Market Detection : For those who also own Metastock...

    Author: Alex
Subject: 511
Posted: 02 Nov 2008 at 9:34am

For those who also own Metastock 10 will be familiar with the Rahul Mohindar RMO indicator. This has been expanded/updated to the Rahul Mohindar's Automated Trend Modules with a video demo at http://forum.equis.com/Training/Online%20Demo/RMO%20ATM%20Demo/RMO_ATM_DEMO.htm . Amongst the new indicators provided is what is termed a Zone Detector. This indicator is designed to determine whether the stock is "Active", "Hyperactive" or "Dormant" ie in the last case going sideways. According to the commentary, the proprietary indicator uses volume, price volatility and standard deviation which is compared to the recent stock history to determine its state. The purpose of the indicator is to avoid getting into stocks which are going sideways and to choose only those which have an active trend (up or down).

While the above movements can be observed by individual inspection of each stock chart, the use of such an indicator in a scan has obvious advantages.

My question is whether anybody has programmed an indicator or, uses a combination of indicators to produce the same result for scans.
